Desktop uploader
The native desktop uploader watches folders on your computer and sends finished recordings to uploads.run. It replaces Google Drive watch folders, which remain paused. Manual Drive file import is still available.
Download the Mac app (Apple silicon). Open the disk image and drag uploads.run into Applications. The app is signed and notarized by Rooted Software, so it opens normally without the right-click step.
- Open the desktop app and choose Link this device. Your browser opens uploads.run.
- Sign in as a workspace owner or admin, check the active workspace in the sidebar, edit the computer name, and click Link computer. Publish automatically is on by default; turn it off if you'd rather review recordings first. Members can't link a computer, so ask an owner or admin. The app finishes linking on its own within a few seconds and comes forward. If it doesn't, click Open uploads.run on the page, or just open the app.
- Choose a recording folder. Subfolders are included. By default, existing recordings are skipped; choose all or select the ones you want to send. You can add several folders and link more workspaces.
- Keep the app running in the menu bar. Closing Settings keeps uploads running. Choose Open at login to start it when you sign in.
Finished recordings only
Recently modified files must stop changing for ten seconds and be available to read. Recordings older than a minute start sooner after a quick size and open-file check. Temporary files, hidden folders and incomplete downloads are ignored. For reliable recording handoff, record to a temporary filename and rename the file when recording finishes. Keep the computer awake and connected until the upload is saved.
Google Drive folders on Mac
Choose a Google Drive folder as usual. Streaming recordings download as needed. The next step asks whether to keep Free up space after Google Drive backs up on, which is the default. A downloaded recording returns to streaming only after uploads.run saves it and Drive confirms its backup. Files already on your computer or kept offline stay local. When Drive cannot confirm that it is safe, the app keeps the file. Recording to a local folder is fastest.
Checked uploads
The app sends large recordings in pieces and checks each piece against the file on your computer. If storage receives anything different, that piece is sent again right away. Before an upload counts as finished, uploads.run checks the whole saved file against your copy, so a damaged recording never reaches transcription.
When the app can't connect
The app uses your computer's certificates and proxy settings, tries IPv4 first, and switches to encrypted DNS if your network's DNS gives out an address that doesn't work. If uploads.run still can't be reached, the app says so and shows the likely reason (DNS, a blocked or intercepted connection, or a timeout) with the full error. It keeps retrying. It also checks DNS, the connection and HTTPS to each uploads.run address, and sends that report once it's back online so support can see what happened. On a Mac the log is in ~/Library/Logs/uploads.run/uploads-desktop.log. If the network filters websites, ask whoever manages it to allow uploads.run and its subdomains.
Appearance and sign out
Before linking, the app follows your computer's appearance. After linking, it follows your uploads.run light, dark or system preference. Sign out / Unlink this device in Settings asks for confirmation, stops uploads and keeps your folders paused until you link again. Revoking the device on the web does the same.
Review or publish
Recordings enter the normal upload and transcription flow. Your existing plan limits apply. Computers publish automatically unless an owner or admin turned it off when linking or later on the Desktop app page. Owners and admins can choose an optional publishing preset for each new folder. It creates private YouTube or Vimeo videos for the full recording, sermon, or both after processing, using existing workspace connections. Without a preset, review and publish in the web app.
How long we keep recordings
uploads.run isn't long-term storage. We keep a working copy of each recording for up to 90 days so we can process it and send it where you choose, then it's deleted automatically. Your originals stay on your computer, and finished videos live in the places you send them, like YouTube or Google Drive.
Resume and duplicates
Uploads resume after a restart or connection failure. The same recording uploaded by this device to the same workspace is saved once, even if it appears in several watched folders. Changes to a recording count as a new file. Settings shows quota, permission and connection errors.
Slow or strict networks
The app sends several pieces of a recording at once, using the same fast connection modern browsers use. If a piece stalls it is sent again, and if one route is blocked the app switches to another. If it can't reach uploads.run at all, it says so and keeps trying on its own.
Device names and progress
See upload progress, time remaining and completed recordings in the app and menu bar. Look for the uploads.run mark in the menu bar. On a Mac it slowly fills from the bottom while a recording uploads; on Windows a small dot appears. Progress shows to two decimal places, such as 1.37%. A notification tells you when each recording finishes. Rename your device in the app or in Your linked devices on the web, where its workspace and app version are shown.
The Desktop app page also shows when each computer was last seen and when its app last updated, such as Last seen 5 minutes ago and Version 0.1.14, updated 2 days ago. The app checks in about every 30 seconds while it's open; Last seen can be up to five minutes behind. If Last seen keeps getting older, the computer is asleep, off, offline or the app is closed. Hover over a time to see the exact date.
Stop or revoke access
Use Pause or Stop beside an upload in the app or menu bar. Stop skips that file until you choose Send again. Members can also stop a desktop upload from the web uploads list. Review existing files beside a folder to send recordings you skipped. Quit exits the uploader. Manage linked computers to rename, change automatic publishing or unlink a computer right away. Unlinking keeps recordings already saved in the workspace.
The app checks for updates shortly after launch and every four hours. Automatically install updates is on by default in Settings. Updates are verified and installed when no upload is active, then the app restarts. Turn the toggle off to choose when to install. Check for updates is always available in Settings and the menu bar menu.
